Research Interests

  • child and adolescent development with a specific focus on the social and emotional development of children and adolescents. This includes an emphasis on learning of the developmental processes and mechanisms associated with positive development across childhood and adolescence, especially in relation to school settings. Three main areas of study are:
    • social cognitive development, including the development of moral reasoning and perspective-taking;
    • emotional development, including empathy, emotion awareness, and emotional regulation;and
    • the influence of contexts on development, with particular focus on the role of schools and teachers in promoting social and emotional competence.
